Meet Lauren

Lauren’s Story

In the summer of 2015, Lauren Huffmaster moved to Brentwood California with her husband and three young girls- then just 2, 4 and 6 years old. Within months, her life changed forever when she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer at the age of 35. After two years of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries, Lauren reach the end of her treatment schedule only to discover,  in a final scan, that her cancer had already spread throughout her spine. She was then diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer.

At that time, few treatment options were available, and hope felt out of reach. But Lauren refused to give up.

Now, nearly 10 years into treatment, Lauren has defied the odds. Fueled by medical breakthroughs and an unwavering spirit she has dedicated her life to making sure no one walks through cancer alone. She founded Adventure Therapy Foundation, a nonprofit that provides emotional support to individuals and families impacted by cancer.

For the past seven years, Lauren has been a tireless advocate and volunteer. She has been featured in People Magazine, The View, major news programs, and countless podcasts. Her work has earned her numerous awards, including the Silver Jefferson Award for Public Service and Nonprofit of the Year from the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce.

She is the author of Cancering: Exploring the Seasons of Emotional Healing and collaborator of the Adventure Jar, a children’s book about resilience. Her podcast, Adventures with Scars, opens honest conversations about emotional health and healing through life’s hardest seasons. Lauren’s story is not just about surviving it’s about building something beautiful out of the broken and her story is about irrational optimism.
